Leaving Hel to her own devices for until it was time to go, Baldur returned to his room. He blinked, eyeing Nanna as she sat at the fire.

"Are you sure you're ready for this, Baldur?" she asked, looking over at him with a slight worry.

"Of course. Haven't we talked about this for months?" Baldur replied, going over to his closet to see if he could find something suitable to wear.

"I know but...what do you think he'll do?" Nanna asked worriedly.

"Who? Odin?" Baldur turned his head to look at his wife.

"No. Forseti." Nanna looked back at him, tears in her eyes. "Will he hate us?"

Baldur sighed, thinking of their son they had together. "I think he will be upset, of course. What child wouldn't be? But he's a smart lad; he'll realize that what we're doing is right. He isn't the god of justice for nothing, after all."

"I hope you're right, Baldur. I hope you're right." Nanna gazed into the fire while he dressed. Time would tell and she only hoped that he was right.

Hel stood in front of the closet, perusing over dresses. She was still nervous about tonight, but she was also sure that Baldur, not to mention her family, would keep the comments from being too harsh. Finally she chose a light, flowing gown in the same shade of Lavender as her heair. She wanted to take a bath first, of course, but it was better to have the dress picked out and laying on her bed, so that when she got out of the bath she didn't have to drag through the closet with damp hands looking for the right one.

Laying the dress out, she then went and got the various underthings necessary to compliment it, and laid them out as well, then drifted into the bathing room attached to her bedroom, dropping articles of clothing as she went, and she noticed in passing that the back of the dress she had been wearing had some pretty large grass stains. She giggled and blushed again, grinning.

There was already a hot bath in there - she could feel the steam coming out - and however that had been accomplished she was extremely grateful. Testing the water with her toe, she found it to be just the right temperature, and sank into it with a blissful sigh, reminding herself that she couldn't spend toooooo long. She did have a very importnat dinner in just a few hours, after all, and she had to be there because Baldur had asked it as a favour.

"Oi...honestly, Baldur. You need a woman around the house. You can't even dress yourself properly!" Nanna complained, once more straightening out his outfit. She's already made him replace two that hadn't looked good on him.

"I do no! I can do it myself!" Baldur protested, then yelped when she smacked his hands.

"You can not. When this is over, you need to marry that young lady so she can take care of you properly." Nanna replied loftily, smirking when he blushed crimson.

After lounging for some time in the tub, Hel got out and cast a small fire spell to deal with the worst of the water still on her. Then she wrapped a towel around herself and went back out into the main room. She brushed her hair out still in nothing but the towel, waiting to be completely dry, and then she got herself into the dress. Well, most of it. There were some lacings in the back that she couldnt' get done up, but she figured that she would be able to deal with that with a little help. She was glad now that she had told Baldur to come a little early to pick her up, just in case.

She left the lacings and moved on to her hair, pinning it up so that it cascaded in waves down over her left shoulder, and then she smiled at herself. "Perfect." she said, "Or as close as I ever get." Then she stuck her tongue out at her reflection.

"Much better." Nanna smiled softly at the figure he presented. "You clean up real nice, Baldur."

"Gee, thanks." Baldur rolled his eyes heavenward. He was dressed in formal garb: tunic, hose and cloak. The cloak was burgundy, while his pants and tunic were white and blue, respectively.

Straightening his tunic, Baldur gazed at Nanna with a smile. "We shall see you there. I think we should come in separately, don't you?"

Nanna giggled, shaking her head. "Whatever you say, husband. I think you just want to be seen with lovely Hel."

"SO? Like you don't want to be seen with Hod!" Baldur smirked while she stuck her tongue out at him. "Let's go, my lady." He extended his arm and she smiled, nodding. The two left, Nanna to find Hod and Baldur to pick up Hel.

Hel giggled at herself, then went to sit over on the bed, being careful not to wrinkle her gown. To pass the time she cast a tiny spell, creating glowing threads between her fingertips and weaving them together into patterns of constallations, which she sent up to the ceiling one at a time.

A knock on the door sounded fifteen minutes later. "Hel? Are you ready?"

"Oh?" Baldur opened the door, sticking his head inside. He gasped, his eyes wide. She was beyong beautiful. Swallowing, he stepped inside nervously. "What do you need help with?"

These laces in the back of the dress." Hel sighed, "I don't knwo a spell to tighten them, and I can't exactly reach halfway around my own back to do them up."

She looked up at him and blushed. He looked very handsome! And the colours offset his skintone and hair most dramatically.

"Ahhh...okay." Baldur flushed slightly, though he didn't know why. He'd used to do this for Nanna all the time. He moved behind her, then laced her back up properly, making sure to give her enough room to breath. He then tied it off with a flourish. "There! Is that too tight?"

Hel took a deep, testing breath. "No, I think it's okay." she said, smiling at him. "Thanks! I wasn't sure how I was going to manage them."

"You sure? If it is, I'll loosen them a bit." Baldur smiled back at her, winking. "That is why most ladies have a maid around, my dear...or a husband."

Hel blushed. "I guess husbands have some uses after all then." she giggled, "And really, they're fine." she smiled, "I have plenty of room to breathe." She proved it by taking a few deep breaths for him. "See?"

"Okay, good. I still have nightmares about how on the day of mine and Nanna's wedding she fainted because her maid tightened them too much." Baldur admitted with a grin.

Hel giggled. "That would be horrible! But kind funny afterwards." she said, "Poor Nanna."

"Aye, it was rather amusing," Baldur snickered, then winked. "Ah, but we can't let that happen to you! Well, s ince we're ready, shall we go?"

Of course!" Hel siad brightly, trying to hide her nervousness. It wasn't like she had been stalling, after all...of course she hadn't been stalling! What a thing to suggest!

Extending his hand to her, Baldur bowed. "Then let us go to Valhalla, my lady. We shall show them the wonders of your beauty and they will be stunned speechless."

Hel blushed and took his hand, letting him lead her out to Valhalla, and trying very hard not to be obviously nervous.

Valhalla was as crowded and merry as it always was, Baldur noticed. He smiled at Hel, who was at his side. They'd just arrived and he couldn't wait to see the looks on everyone's faces when they saw them together.

Loki had been sitting near the front, waiting for his wayward children to show up. He winked at Sigyn, who giggled and covered her hand at his comment. As soon as he saw Hel and Baldur, he blinked. Moving over to them, he took Hel's hands in his, staring at her dumbfounded. "Is this really my little girl? I didn't even recognize you, Hel! You're stunning!"

Hel giggled. "Papa, don't be silly, of course you recognized me!" she said, "But I do love this dress. Baldur was even kind enough to help me get the laces done up so I didn't look all droopy in it."

"Was he now?" Loki smirked, eyeing Baldur, who flushed. "How nice of him."

"Ahh...hehehe yeah." Baldur gave a lopsided grin, shrugging. "How are things?"

"Boring, as usual. Odin was just about to give some boring speech, as always." Loki rolled his eyes heavenward. "Honestly, if he'd only spice it up a little, maybe half of Asgard wouldn't be asleep when he says anything."

"Yep, that's your papa." Loki winked at Hel, then kissed her cheek.

Baldur grinned, then indicated the head table, where Odin sat. "Most of the minor gods and goddesses have their own, smaller table. Those of us who are related to Odin get to sit up there."

"At least you're not sandwiched inbetween Odin and Heimdall." Loki rolled his eyes heavenward. "I think I could recite all of Odin's old stories."

Smirking, Baldur affected an innocent look. "Aye, I know. I'm so underpriviledged."

Hel giggled, their banter distracting her and keeping her from being nervous. It wasn't keeping her from being hungry, though, and there were some very enticing smells coming from somewhere nearby. "Um, can we eat soon?" she asked, blushing a little.
